1 ton of cocaine intercepted on board of a sailing vessel by Spanish authorities

The Spanish authorities intercepted a croatian sailing vessel 88 nautical miles west of La Palma Canary Islands.

After being towed to the island of Gran Canaria, 1078Kg of cocaine (gross weight) have been found, and the three crew members have been arrested.

It is believed that the vessel has been loaded off the West African coast and the final destination of the drugs would be Europe.

It has been established that the Croatian nationals sailed out of the coastal city of Sibenik in early 2020 to take the African smuggling route in late August, sailing from the Canary Islands, Spain, southwards along the coast of West Africa, where local organised criminal groups, recruited by the cartel, loaded the cocaine on the sailboat.

This seizure is a result of an intense exchange of information between several countries within the framework of MAOC – N.
