4.4 tonnes of hashish seized in the Gulf of Cádiz

In a joint operation between the Spanish National Police and Spanish Customs (DAVA), and with the support of the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, over four tonnes of hashish were seized onboard a sailing vessel in the Gulf of Cádiz. This operation was carried out within the framework of international cooperation against drug trafficking through MAOC-N.

According to the Spanish authorities, the sailing vessel IVY ROSA sailed to the West coast of Morocco to load the drugs. It was meant to subsequently transport it to South America. Due to adverse weather conditions, however, the vessel sailed back to Spanish waters to find shelter where the interception occurred on the night of 10/12/2022.

The vessel was escorted to Cádiz for a deep search to be undertaken, and a total of 140 bales containing 4.400kg of hashish were seized. The two crew members have been detained.
