Brazilian authorities seize cannabis load off Fernando de Noronha

A joint operation undertaken by the Brazilian Federal Police and Navy has resulted in the seizure of 632kg of cannabis resin on board a Panamanian flagged sailing vessel, approximately 150 nautical miles off the Brazilian archipelago of Fernando de Noronha.

Indications are that the vessel departed from Europe with two Italian crew members, both of whom were arrested and will be placed in the custody of the competent judicial authority.

MAOC-N has supported 2 Brazilian-led operations so far this year, resulting in the seizure of five tons of cannabis from vessels travelling from Europe to Brazil.

This operation reinforces the importance of international cooperation between MAOC-N and the Brazilian Federal Police.
