MAOC-N supports seizure of 945 kg of cocaine from tugboat off the coast of Brazil

In the afternoon of the 29th of April, the Brazilian Federal Police carried out a maritime operation leading to the seizure of approximately 945 kg of cocaine, found onboard a Brazilian flagged tug vessel named “Aquila”.

This was a joint counterdrug operation between the Brazilian Federal Police, the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Airforce, with close support from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The 7 crew members aboard the vessel – with Brazilian, Spanish and French nationalities – were arrested and duly presented before the competent judiciary authorities of the Regional Superintendence of the Brazilian Federal Police, in Rio de Janeiro, where the required legal proceedings and appropriate diligences took place.

The 945 kg haul was the result of an intelligence-led international operation supported by the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre – MAOC-N.
