MAOC (N) supports Spanish seizure of 2000Kg of cocaine in the Canary Islands

The interception of a semi-rigid vessel on the beach of La Aldea, Gran Canaria, has led to the seizure of just over 2000kg of cocaine in one of the largest counterdrug operations in Gran Canaria.

In the early hours of the 28th of July, a Spanish joint operation undertaken by the Guardia Civil -with the close and coordinated support from the UK authorities (NCA), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and MAOC (N) – seized 2000kg of cocaine hidden inside 67 waterproof sports bags found on a rural farm, located approximately 6kms from where the vessel was found.

The in-land search operation was carried out by the Spanish authorities on the afternoon of the same day, after the Guardia Civil located the suspicious vessel (a go-fast) abandoned and empty at the aforementioned beach, located in the Western part of the island.

The 2000kg haul was the result of an intelligence-led international operation coordinated by the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre – MAOC (N).
