MAOC (N) supports the Spanish seizure of 500kg in the Atlantic Ocean

A maritime operation carried out at the beginning of August by the Spanish National Police and Customs (DAVA) resulted in the interception of a sailing vessel with 400Kg of Cocaine onboard.

The Polish-flagged vessel was intercepted approximately 500 nautical miles west of the Azores Islands, with cocaine being found onboard in its cabinets. The vessel was subsequently towed to the Port of Cadiz in Spain, where after its arrival, it was thoroughly searched, and a total of 400Kg of Cocaine was discovered. The two crewmembers were arrested during the interception.

The investigation leading to the seizure started at the beginning of this year following information received by the Spanish Authorities regarding Bulgarian nationals who would presumably use Spain as a logistic base to carry out a large-scale cocaine operation. The thorough work of the authorities enabled the identification of its members as well as the sailboat located in the Caribbean to be used for this endeavour.

This investigation was carried out with the collaboration of international partners such as the authorities of the United Kingdom and France and the participation of the CITCO (Spanish Centre for Intelligence against Terrorism and Organised Crime) and the MAOC-N. The 400Kg seizure is the result of MAOC (N)’s partner countries’ close cooperation and information sharing under the Centre’s operational scope.
