Portuguese Navy Chief of Staff Visits MAOC-N

The Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Navy, Admiral Jorge Nobre de Sousa, visited the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (Narcotics) (MAOC-N), in a meeting that served to reinforce cooperation and discuss joint efforts to combat maritime drug trafficking.

During the visit, Admiral Nobre de Sousa was briefed on MAOC-N’s recent operations, intelligence-sharing practices, and the latest trends in maritime narcotics routes. Discussions also focused on enhancing coordination between the Navy and the centre, improving awareness of emerging threats, and exploring further Portuguese contributions to MAOC-N’s multinational operations.

The visit highlighted Portugal’s strong commitment to international maritime security and its active role in supporting MAOC-N’s mission to disrupt drug trafficking across the Atlantic.

Since the Centre’s inception in 2007, the Portuguese Navy has participated in 54 maritime operations, which have resulted in a total of 52.9 tonnes of cocaine and 42.9 tonnes of cannabis seized.
