The Executive Director of MAOC-N recently welcomed Ms Cristina Iampieri, Head of the Passenger and Cargo Control Programme within the Division of Operations at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to its Headquarters in Lisbon this week.
Ms Iampieri was accompanied by Ms Kate Meredith, Global Programme Head at UNODC, who promoted and facilitated the visit as part of the ongoing cooperation between MAOC-N and UNODC. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to further strengthen the collaboration between the two organisations.
Discussions focused on the global fight against drug trafficking, with particular attention given to drug trafficking via air, an area that forms a key part of MAOC-N’s mandate.
Both MAOC-N and UNODC underlined the importance of enhancing their collaboration to address the growing challenges posed by international organised crime groups exploiting aviation and maritime channels for illicit drug ventures.
