MAOC-N and the Brazilian Navy sign a Memorandum of Understanding

This week, a significant milestone was achieved in the efforts to enhance collaboration in the fight against illicit maritime trafficking as Rear Admiral Luciano Calixto de Almeida Junior, Commander of Maritime Operations and Blue Amazon Protection (COMPAAZ) in representation of the Brazilian Navy and MAOC-N’s Executive Director, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Centre’s headquarters in Lisbon.

The Brazilian delegation included Rear Admiral Alex Urbancg from the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI); Denis Cali, Director of Organised Crime at the Brazilian Federal Police; and representatives from the Brazilian Customs and the Military Police. Also present was Artur Vaz, the Portuguese member of the MAOC-N Executive Board.

The newly signed MoU reflects our shared commitment to enhancing operational cooperation and information exchange even further. MAOC-N has enjoyed a long-standing and highly productive partnership with the Brazilian Federal Police and is looking forward to developing a similarly close relationship with the Brazilian Navy. MAOC-N also welcomes the Brazilian Navy’s future participation in MAOC-N supported operations, which will further strengthen the collective efforts to combat maritime drug trafficking between South America, Europe and beyond.
