MAOC-N Welcomes EEAS Security & Peace Advisor on Africa to Headquarters

MAOC-N recently welcomed Charlie Stuart, Chief Peace & Security Advisor on Africa at the European Union External Action Service (EEAS), to its headquarters in Lisbon.

During the visit, Mr. Stuart met with MAOC-N’s Executive Director and Head Analyst for discussions on the evolving security situation in West Africa, with particular emphasis on the challenges posed by the limited availability of maritime assets in the region.

The meeting highlighted the importance of a more coordinated and sustained maritime presence, bringing together available naval assets to strengthen operational responses to maritime security threats. Participants also underlined the need to enhance cooperation between European and African partners, particularly in areas where maritime trafficking routes continue to pose significant challenges.

Effective maritime cooperation, supported by timely intelligence-sharing and the coordinated deployment of appropriate assets, remains essential to translating intelligence into operational action at sea.

MAOC-N remains committed to strengthening partnerships and facilitating the exchange of intelligence and operational coordination between its international partners in support of efforts to disrupt maritime drug trafficking.
