A large-scale anti-narcotics operation undertaken by the French authorities in the Gulf of Guinea has resulted in a record seizure of cocaine on board the MV NAJLAN, a general cargo vessel flagged Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Last Sunday, the 21st of March, the French boarding team from the amphibious assault ship DIXMUDE intercepted the vessel and immediately found 6 tons of cocaine on board. The illicit cargo was believed to be destined for Europe.
This operation was based on intelligence provided by the French anti-drug agency (OFAST) and the Dutch police, in close collaboration with the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre – Narcotics (MAOC-N), the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL), the Brazilian Federal Police and the Brazilian Navy.
