A joint operation conducted by the UK Border Force and the National Crime Agency (NCA), working closely with the Australian Federal Police and MAOC-N, as resulted in the seizure of 2.370Kg of cocaine destined to Europe.
The interdiction of the Jamaican-flagged yacht Kahu, sailing from the Caribbean, took place off the coast of Plymouth (UK), before the vessel was escorted back to the UK mainland, where a team carried out a deep rummage and discovered the enormous haul of Class A drugs.
The crew members, 1 Brit and 5 Nicaraguans whose ages range from 24 to 49, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and are in custody awaiting to appear in court.
According to the deputy director of the NCA, “there’s no doubt these drugs would have been sold on into communities across the UK in such ways as County Lines fuelling more crime and misery”, further stating that “the arrests of the men transporting the drugs means the crime group has lost trusted offenders who would have been key to their operation.”
So far this year, MAOC-N has supported operations that have led to the seizure of over 25 tons of cocaine by the partner countries.
