In the last days, a joint operation carried out by the Argentinian authorities (Gendarmeria Nacional and Prefectura Naval) resulted in the seizure of 783 Kg of cocaine in a warehouse located in the country, close to the border with Chile.
The Argentinian authorities believe that the objective of the investigated organisation was to transport this significant amount of cocaine on a sailing vessel that would depart Chile and sail towards Europe, the final destination of this illicit cargo.
Through the information shared between several international partners, it was possible to follow the movements of some of the investigated individuals who had previously been involved in other cocaine seizures on board sailing vessels bound for Europe. The involvement of several partners, the swiftness in the exchange of information and the prompt and timely intervention of the mentioned Argentinian authorities, has led to this important result and the dismantling of this powerful criminal organisation dedicated to maritime drug trafficking.
Besides the already mentioned Argentinian authorities, this operation counted with the contribution of several international partners like Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Cape Verde, Spain, UNODC CRIMJUST and SEACOP, with much of the information having been shared within the framework of MAOC-N.
