On December 27th, 2024, a joint operation by German authorities resulted in the seizure of approximately 153kg of cocaine on a cargo vessel in Wilhelmshaven. The operation, supported by MAOC-N, involved the cooperation of several German agencies, including customs, border control, and police forces.
The 300-metre-long cargo vessel was thoroughly inspected, including the use of a drug-sniffing dog. Authorities discovered five large packages wrapped in fishing nets, containing nearly 150 packets of cocaine. Following the recovery, the drugs were securely stored.
Investigations into the import smuggling and identification of potential suspects are ongoing under the direction of the German Oldenburg Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Germany became a full member of the Centre in March 2024 strengthening international cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking. This recent accession highlights Germany’s continued commitment to tackling organised crime in maritime settings.
