On 23/11/2023, the Executive Director of MAOC-N hosted Mme Ine Van Wymersch, Belgian Drug Commissioner, and the Ambassador of Belgium to Portugal, Serge Wauthier, at the Centre’s Headquarters in Lisbon.
Commissioner Van Wymersch and Ambassador Wauthier were briefed by a Senior Analyst on some of the Centre’s past and current operations, with a particular focus on the vulnerabilities in the Gulf of Guinea, and with a view to strengthening and further exploring cooperation ties between the Centre and the Belgian authorities, which are currently in the process of joining MAOC-N.
Commissioner Van Wymersch reiterated Belgium’s willingness to become a partner country of MAOC-N, noting that the future cooperation between Belgium and MAOC-N will be an important step towards the optimization of information exchange on international drug smuggling.
