On the morning of April 17th, 2024, a bulk carrier named ACACIA, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, was boarded by the Italian Guardia di Finanza and the Ravenna State Police near the port of Ravenna, Italy.
During this operation, which was carried out in difficult weather and sea conditions, the GDF divers found 9 waterproof bales in the sea chest, located 10 metres deep on the kneel of the 180-metre-long vessel.
Inside, authorities eventually recovered 139 packages containing 150 kg of cocaine.
The ACACIA had set sail at the end of February from Brazil to head towards northern Europe, before arriving near the Ravenna Port to unload fertilizers.
