Over 3.2 Tonnes of Cocaine Seized from Cargo Vessel Northeast of the Canary Islands

Spanish authorities have seized a cargo vessel carrying approximately 3.281 kg of cocaine northeast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands. The operation was conducted on 04/10/2024 by Special Operations vessel PETREL of the Spanish Customs (DAVA), together with the French Customs (DNRED) vessel DPF-3.

The target was a 70-metre-long vessel named RAS, flying the flag of Tanzania. 10 crew members were arrested and presented to the competent judicial authorities.

The seizure was part of a jointly coordinated effort involving the Spanish National Police and the Civil Guard, the Intelligence Center for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO), and the French Customs, with support from the UK authorities (NCA) and MAOC-N.

In addition to the aforementioned authorities, the operation also had the assistance of the Judicial Police of Guinea-Bissau, from where the vessel departed.
