On 15/02/2023, the Executive Director of MAOC-N received the Minister of Justice of Portugal, Catarina Sarmento e Castro, at the Centre’s headquarters in Lisbon.
Minister Castro was briefed on some of the Centre’s operations with a particular focus on the vulnerabilities of the Gulf of Guinea and the emergence of new maritime drug trafficking routes and criminal activity hubs in the area.
As one of the founding countries – and the host country to the Centre’s headquarters – Portugal has been a key strategic partner of MAOC-N since its inception in 2007, contributing with valuable intelligence and providing maritime and air assets in operations coordinated through the Centre, thus enhancing international cooperation in the context of maritime drug trafficking.
