Spanish Guardia Civil Visits MAOC-N to Strengthen Cooperation

The Executive Director of MAOC-N was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Spanish Guardia Civil to the Centre’s headquarters, reinforcing the strong collaborative relationship between both organisations in the fight against maritime drug trafficking.

The delegation included a Lieutenant Colonel, Head of the Counter-Narcotics Department, and a Lieutenant Colonel, Head of the Regional Centre for Counter-Narcotics Analysis and Intelligence.

The visit began with a meeting aimed at providing a closer understanding of MAOC-N’s mandate, structure and operational approach. Discussions focused on general working methods and the handling of intelligence, in the context of the Guardia Civil’s recently established maritime intelligence group. This unit is responsible for managing information received from MAOC-N and integrating it with intelligence gathered from their land-based operations.

Spain is a founding member of MAOC-N, having joined the Centre at its inception in 2007. The visit highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between MAOC-N and the Spanish authorities, who have played a significant role since its inception, including the conduct of important seizures supported by MAOC-N and active participation in joint operations to combat maritime drug trafficking.
