MAOC-N recently participated in Operation COLIBRI ZAFIRO, a major international operation coordinated by the World Customs Organization (WCO) under its COLIBRI Project and funded by the European Union.
Over 16 days, Customs and partner agencies from 19 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, and West and Central Africa, carried out 1431 controls of General Aviation (privately operated aircraft outside scheduled commercial services). The operation was coordinated in real time through three operational centres, strengthening information-sharing and cooperation between participating authorities.
As part of its mandate to support international cooperation against drug trafficking via air, MAOC-N contributed to the operation’s focus on General Aviation, working alongside partner agencies to support the exchange of operational information and coordinated action.
The operation resulted in 15 seizures, including approximately 1.2 tonnes of narcotics and 11 light aircraft, while authorities also identified 86 clandestine airstrips.
MAOC-N’s participation reflects the Centre’s continued commitment to international efforts to disrupt illicit trafficking networks through intelligence-sharing, operational coordination and cooperation with partner agencies.
